Bharti Airtel to launch TV-on-the-go
Becomes third, after Dish TV and Tata Sky, to offer TV on mobiles
Bharti Airtel is goint to launch Digital TV services on mobile phones this week, according to a report in Economic Times. This will offer live content from over 150 channels on the go. Bharti is expected to launch a free app, called Pocket TV, on Google Play next week, and a month later on App Store (for iOS platform), which will give access to the service.
Airtel becomes the third DTH firm to offer this service, which is already offered by Dish TV and Tata Sky, who launched TV on the go at comparable prices last year.
Customers will have to pay Rs.60 a month for the Airtel service, which will be restricted to existing Airtel Digital television subscribers. They will be able to watch unlimited television on the go but will have to pay additional charges for data consumed through the handset.
The company was enticed to add this service by the 400 per cent increase in mobile TV viewership on its networks in FY13, with sports and news the big draw.
