Corning localizes, opens optical fiber plant in India
India's fiber broadband plan for rural areas is the new attraction
Corning has opened its new optical fiber manufacturing facility in India. Located in Chakan, near Pune, in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Phase II industrial park. This plant is the Corning's first manufacturing facility in India.
India is becoming a big market for optical cables due to its plan to provide high bandwidth network to rural areas. Even while wireless technology is being enhanced to handle high bandwidth, optical remains the more suitable for high-speed data transmission. In India, it's going to be a mix of wireless and optical links.
Corning's decision to set up a plant in India was also influenced by the Government's localization push.
The manufacturing facility by Corning in India was set up within a year. Government of Maharashtra has been praised for its support to this project, to create an investor friendly environment in Maharashtra.
