Mukesh-Anil collaboration in bandwidth?
12-06-2010
Possible, if both companies see growth and profits in this
With its entry into broadband access, Reliance Industries (RIL), controlled by Mukesh Ambani, will get an entry into the telecom access market. RIL is especially targeting corporate broadband access.
It will need domestic and international bandwidth for a complete play in this area. Getting domestic bandwidth is relatively easy, given that many telcos, the railways and the power and gas utility companies have domestic cable networks.
International bandwidth is controlled by three companies - Tata Comm, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Global - and Reliance Global is controlled by Anil Ambani. Anil recently wanted to sell bandwidth on Reliance's global FLAG cable network to other telcos.
There is a possibility of an Ambani collaboration here. Though a plan that maintains the balance of power between RCom (parent company of Reliance Global) and RIL Telecom would be hard to design
