Delhi cable operators to use telco cables
16-03-2010
Another modern makeover for an old industry
Overhead television cable wires will soon be out of sight in Delhi. As the tussle between the 2,000-plus cable operators and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) nears a conclusion, the plan is to clear the Capital of overhead cable wires before the Commonwealth Games.
The decision came after telcos like Reliance, MTNL and Airtel agreed to share their dark fibre or spare capacity of fibre optics with the cable operators. The move will allow the operators to share the extra capacity on the already laid telecom cables, without having to dig the roads again to lay fresh cables. It will also be more cost effective for the cable operators.
