WiMAX auction winners can offer voice also

15-01-2010

This will improve the economics of the upcoming WiMAX industry in India

In a victory for the WiMAX lobby, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has decided that companies successful in the WiMAX spectrum auctions can provide voice services too and challenge existing telecom companies. As per the earlier norms, WiMAX spectrum was to be used only for providing data services.

Many firms have come up with cheaper technologies such as VoIP over WiMAX, and the new decision will be welcomed as it will improve the business model and economics of the upcoming WiMAX industry in India
