Pacnet to enter India corporate data market
09-12-2009
Gets letters of intent for NLD, ILD
Asia's privately owned submarine network Pacnet has received Letters of Intent from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for offering national and international long distance services, and intends to operate in the corporate data amarket.
Pacnet expects to receive the licenses by the end of 2009. "We have to finish some paperwork after which we will receive the licence. However we don't have plans to enter the voice segment of NLD and ILD. We will focus on offering a suite of data services for Indian enterprises" Pacnet CEO Bill Barney said
Pacnet has also commenced upgrading its network Points of Presence (PoPs) across India, and will be building a new PoP in Chennai to serve as an international gateway between India and the rest of Pacnet's global network. When this is completed by third quarter 2010, Pacnet will be able to deliver across India, its full suite of solutions including Ethernet International Private Line, IP VPN and its comprehensive range of managed services, on industry-leading Service Level Agreements.
Pacnet's entry into the corporate data market is the inevitable sequel to its plans, unveiled today, to establish a new submarine cable system to India. The West Asia Crossing (WAC), to be completed in 2012, will connect India directly to Southeast Asia at two landing points in Singapore and Malaysia (see separate story in these columns).
