Roaming between 3G, WLAN gets seamless

IntelliNet Technologies says that it has started supplying Wi-Fi hardware to Huawei for supply to an unnamed mobile network operator in India. IntelliNet's Wireless Services Gateway (WSG) will be integrated with Huawei's packet core network.

IntelliNet's WSG includes a 3GPP Packet Data Gateway (PDG), Tunnel Terminating Gateway (TTG), and Security Gateway (SeGW). This combination provides a secure Wi-Fi connection into the core network so that subscribers can "roam" onto un-trusted IP access networks. This technique is referred to as Interworking Wireless LAN (IWLAN), which enables the integration of Wi-Fi technology with 3G networks.

Anjan Ghosal, president and CEO of IntelliNet Technologies, said: "The IWLAN technique is designed as a data-centric 3G solution with a path to accommodate future services such as LTE".

"Our customer recognized the advantage of using the IWLAN technique so they could use untrusted access networks to grow their network throughout India", said Mr. Vipul Sharma, General Manager of Sales for Huawei in India. "IntelliNet is the leader in the development and deployment of IWLAN and a logical partner for Huawei".

The WSG performs the role of a mobile service provider edge gateway that works with the Azaire 3GPP-compliant AAA Server to the HLR/HSS. The WSG supports a wide range of IP broadband access technologies including IWLAN, UMA and Femtocells to provide a rich blend of FMC services for the mobile network operator.
