Reliance Communications (RCom) is talking to Hyderabad-based Apalya Technologies on use of the latter's platform 'Mimobi' for
mobile TV services on the RCom GSM network. The Apalya multimedia player software will allow access to about 25 TV channels.
RCom currently offers mobile TV services on its CDMA network, delivering 13 channels with its real-time streaming technology. It now plans to offer mobile TV over its 3G-ready GSM network.
Tata Teleservices Maharashtra earlier launched it MiMobiTV service using Apalya's product.
Other telecom operators have been testing and piloting mobile TV for some time. MTNL used NetEdge TeleSolutions to test mobile TV on its Dolphin and Trump networks in Delhi last year.
BSNL had tied up with ROK for TinyTV and with Apalya in 2007 for mobile TV pilots. Idea Cellular tested Apalya's mobile TV just before its IPO in February 2007.
