BSNL confirms order for Ericsson, Huawei

24-06-2009

BSNL's Chairman has confirmed that, for its Rs 300 billion mega GSM tender, two companies had been shortlisted after receiving technical bids. "For North and East India, it is Ericsson and, in the South, it is Huawei".

Goyal added that "These are the only players in the race. In the West zone, a decision has to be taken. Right now, some work is already on in the West zone by Alcatel-ITI".

"In the North and South, there are 25 million lines and, in the East, there are about 25 million lines"

Huawei, however, has had some bad news: according to some reports the Chinese player could be banned from bidding for Indian Telephone Industries, an Indian Government telecom manufacturing arm, which is seeking a foreign investor
